Dixie Emperor became the latest G1 winner bred by Fares Farms, when he strode to a resounding victory in the prestigious Clasico Internacional Propietarios La Rinconada in Venezuela on Sunday.
The 3-year-old son of Purge out of Gypsy Hollow, by Dixieland Band, defeated 16 other top runners, including older horses, in the important invitational stakes run over 1 ¼ miles on the dirt.
Dixie Emperor broke well, then bided in his time near the rear for the opening mile. He commenced his rally on the final turn, split horses twice in the stretch, and was gobbling up ground voraciously as he neared the wire. The margin of victory was officially two lengths, but Dixie Emperor was well clear and drawing off from the runner-up.
Fares Farms bred, foaled and raised Dixie Emperor, then sold him through Warrendale Sales, agent, at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale. This year, they are selling his half-sister by More Than Ready at Keeneland, Hip 2535 in the Taylor Made consignment. Dixie Emperor is just the second foal from his dam, who now has produced two stakes winners from her first two foals.
The mare’s first foal, Gipson Dessert, was a stakes winner and Group placed in four starts as a 2-year-old in France. The mare’s current 2-year-old is an El Corredor filly named Tangerine, who was purchased for $120,000 by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss at last year’s Keeneland September Sale.
